JD Sanchez Beats Gui Khury to World Skate Games Gold

JD Sanchez delivered on the biggest stage in Asunción, putting together the scores needed to beat one of Vert Skateboarding's biggest names.

The American's final included a 91.46 and 93.50, helping him reach a winning total of 274.46.

Gui Khury kept the pressure on. The Brazilian produced another consistent final, highlighted by a 92.26, but his 265.25 total left him 9.21 points behind Sanchez.

Fellow American Hudson Walker completed the podium with 244.39, giving the United States two of the three Men's Vert medals.

For Sanchez, the result adds a major international title to his résumé after an already impressive 2026 season.

Mizuho Hasegawa Dominates Women's Vert

There was considerably more breathing room at the top of the Women's leaderboard.

Mizuho Hasegawa entered Asunción among the athletes to beat and lived up to that billing.

After scoring 84.68, the Japanese star stepped things up with an 89.33, eventually building a winning total of 259.66.

Her closest challenger was compatriot Shuka Kawai, who secured silver with 231.78.

Brazil's Helena Laurino completed the podium in third with 195.17.

The result gave Japan a commanding one-two finish and once again demonstrated the country's strength in Women's Vert.

Ao Nishikawa Steals the Show with a 95.90

Winning the competition required consistency, but one of the biggest individual moments belonged to Ao Nishikawa.

The Japanese skateboarder produced a massive 95.90, the highest individual run of the Men's final.

Yet Nishikawa's overall total wasn't enough to reach the podium.

It was a perfect example of the challenge presented by the scoring format: one spectacular run could make headlines, but the title required athletes to deliver across multiple scores.

Sanchez did exactly that.

Sanchez and Hasegawa Leave Asunción with Gold

The Vert competition ultimately produced two convincing champions.

JD Sanchez combined consistency with 90-plus scores to defeat Gui Khury, while Mizuho Hasegawa created a sizeable advantage over the rest of the Women's field.

The United States leaves with gold and bronze in Men's Vert, while Japan takes gold and silver in Women's Vert.

For Sanchez and Hasegawa, however, the biggest prize is simple:

World Skate Games 2026 champions.
